Dr. Obayashi was born and raised in Japan. After finishing her bachelor’s in dietetics and becoming a registered dietitian in Japan, Dr. Obayashi completed her master’s and doctoral degree in human nutrition at Michigan State University. After spending several years analyzing large database such as National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), she realized that she enjoys working with people more than conducting secondary data analysis. She completed her dietetic internship at Detroit Health Department in Michigan and became a registered dietitian nutritionist in the U.S. At CHEAR, she oversees day-to-day activities and studies in the lab, assists clinic as a dietitian as needed, and enjoys working with research participants as interventionist. In her free time, she enjoys discovering new foods with her husband and volunteering to protect and monitor trout streams and rivers as their two teenage sons become more independent.
