Dr. Marcus is Professor and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health, and the Senior Associate Dean for Public Health at the University of California, San Diego.  She earned her Ph.D. at Auburn University and is a Clinical Psychologist. Dr. Marcus’s research focuses on the stages and processes of exercise behavior change and the development of interventions to promote moderate-intensity physical activity in community, workplace, and primary care settings. She has participated in American Heart Association, American College of Sports Medicine, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and National Institutes of Health panels which have created the recommendations on the quantity and intensity of physical activity necessary for health benefits. Her research also focuses on promoting physical activity in underserved and vulnerable populations. At CHEAR, Dr. Marcus oversees the physical activity interventions and assessments. Even with her busy schedule she finds time to fit in physical activity on a daily basis.
